Beware the deadly diet

In an effort to lose weight, many people resort to a harsh diet, which causes them major health damage and puts them at risk of death.
Y Experts in nutrition warned against some types of diets that are more dangerous for humans than 1- smoking or 2- high blood pressure, and they said that these deadly diets claim the lives of hundreds of thousands of people annually.

The data of an American study indicated that the diet, which is based on red meat, fats and sugar, while excluding vegetables and fruits, causes the killing of half a million Americans and 90,000 Britons annually.

Thus, such diets, which experts call "fatal diets," outperform 1- smoking and 2- high blood pressure as the leading causes of premature death, according to the British newspaper "Daily Mail".

Experts warn of the so-called "Western Diet," a diet rich in red meat, fat and sugar, with few fruits and vegetables, and they say it was behind the death of one in five people in 2017.

The most recent data showed that around 2017, nearly 11 million people worldwide died due to illnesses caused by the "fatal diet".

China and India witnessed the largest number of diet-related deaths annually, and the number of deaths reached more than 3 million people, as well as one million people, respectively, followed by Russia with 550 thousand people.

The United States ranked fourth in the rate of fatal food deaths, and the UK ranked 18th in the world.

The author co-author of the study, Dr. Christopher Murray, advised not to remove whole grains, fruits, nuts, seeds and vegetables from daily meals, and to avoid as much as possible from sugar, fat and foods rich in salt.

The "killer diet" is mainly behind cardiovascular disease, such as strokes and heart attacks, followed by cancer and type 2 diabetes.
